I've always considered myself to be a selfish runner. I run for my own enjoyment and my own success. While I'm happy to run with others I've always thought of it as them running with me, sorry if that bothers anyone. As such when I went out with Team Wedge and Emma running I was planning on dropping out at five miles regardless of what the rest were up to.
This all changed when Tom got stung by a wasp a mile or two in, and so needed support. From then on he really struggled, and unfortunately he was following my training plan, which required him to go further than he has before to 12km. At first we trotted along as a group, though with plenty of complaints from Tom, but as he started to struggle more I knew I had to stick with him to get him the distance.
We chatted about form, about life and about how much his leg hurt and we stopped for brief walks along the way. By the time the others came around again to tell me we were at 5 miles I was way too committed to drop out as planned. So we ploughed on, and though it was hard, mostly for Tom, we got to 12km with a little help from Weeman at the end.
I don't think the extra distance will have done any damage, and I haven't had pain since, so I guess I got away with it. If my leg had started to hurt part way along I'm not sure if I'd have carried on or not, but I hope we won't have to find out. 106 miles to go...
No stats or map this week, as Harry was wearing my watch.
