8 August 2013 - A new direction

Having got some more confidence from how well Monday's run went I decided to change things up a bit and head off in the other direction.  The ground I started on wasn't exactly flat. It sloped continually up and down for the first third of a mile, with a woody section with added tree routes and a bridge thrown in for good measure. Not the easiest start to a 4 mile run, but definitely more interesting than the downs link. I then walked through the cemetery, because running through just feels wrong, and then the proper running could start.

Having hit the roads at Itchingfield the proper running could start, and I settled into a nice easy rhythm. This put me at a little over 8:30 min/mile, and about 160bpm. This varied a lot with the continuing ups and downs, but overall I was really pleased with the numbers considering I've been coming back from injury.

It was as I approached the bridge to Christ's Hospital that I realised I hadn't actually run in this direction since I'd injured myself. Which brought a few unpleasant flash backs. Fortunately this time there didn't seem to be any issues, and so I was able to continue past the point where I'd had to stop all those weeks ago. In fact I went out to 2.3 miles in order to avoid all the mess around from the church yard onwards. When I got back to the church I'd only done 3.93 miles. Close enough.

It was only on the walk home that I realised I'd forgotten to wear my compression socks. If I'd have hurt then I'd have felt like a right idiot, but as I was almost pain free I guess I got away with it. I still took two Ibuprofen when I got home just to be on the safe side. 115 miles to go...
