Hi All,
Today I went for the same run as yesterday, it was a little bit more relaxed (read as slower) but mostly uneventful. The only exciting moments were the three times I slipped and almost fell over and the new fallen branches in the wooded section that may have been supposed to act as bridges, but if so were more dangerous than the sodden ground.
The interesting revelation came afterwards, when I was thinking about what event to do after the marathon. Last week in Cornwall there was a sign for a triathlon occurring a couple of months later, and this seemed like a great place to go next, especially as I've never been a good swimmer. I'm still trying to work out if looking for a new challenge while still 9 months away from this one is normal or a little weird, any opinions are welcomed.
If this desire to keep trying to go further is inherited from anyone I believe it is probably Gramps (my Dad's Dad). Even to this day he is incredibly active, including owning a canoe for use on the local loch (did I mention he lives in deepest Scotland). Last autumn he completed a 13 mile run across the Highlands, the only person in the over 75 category to do so, made more impressive by the fact that he fell off a ladder and broke his leg only a year and a bit before. What makes this inheritance stranger is that I haven't actually met him since I was 8 or so, and so have no memories of him. I'll let you know how it goes when I meet him properly this summer.
Thanks for reading,
Nick
