Once again, this week I decided to run a couple of 5ks and a 10k. The first 5k, which I ran on Tuesday, was along a different route to normal, as when I left the house it was windy and I'm not much of a fan of running along the seafront in the wind. So, instead of running down to the sea, I ran up towards Hove Park and back. As this meant I was running downhill(ish) for the final stretch I managed a 3:42k, which I was pleased with.
Distance (km): 5.03
Time (hh:mm:ss): 00:21:42
Pace (min/km): 4.19
For my second run, on Friday, it was once again windy, so I ran around some of the streets in Hove, taking it relatively easy.
Distance (km): 5.02
Time (hh:mm:ss): 00:21:59
Pace (min/km): 4.22
My final run of the week came on Sunday. I decided to run another 10k and, like last week, take it easyish. However this turned out not to be the case. My route was slightly different to my usual one: I ran up towards Hove Park for a kilometre and back, then down to the seafront. With a bit of running out and back, I ran most of my distance on the flat of the promenade. This was useful as this is what the Brighton 10k - which I will be running in November- course is like. Along my run I stopped for ~10/15 seconds to read a placard on a beacon that I've been running past for almost 2 years. As I am soon to move from Hove I thought this may be my last chance to read it, however I slightly regret stopping after seeing my time. I ran comfortably for the first 5k, completing it in 20:49, and I then really went for it and completed the second 5k in 19:30, which I was very pleased with - a sub 20 min 5k (and comfortably sub 20). As I pushed hard for the last kilometre, I completed it in 3:18, a new 1k pb which resulted in a 10k time of 40:20, more than two minutes off my previous pb. This left me confident that I will be able to break the 40 min barrier come the Brighton 10k.
Distance (km): 10:01
Time (hh:mm:ss): 00:40:48
Pace (min/km): 4.04
Next week I go on holiday for a fortnight, so am not sure how much I'll get to run, but will try to get out.
