I knew a couple of weeks ago that a return to the Treadmill was coming when it was practically dark by the time I finished my run, and yesterday was the day it finally happened. I didn't get started till late due to having a family meal for my birthday, and so it was dark by the time I started. Due to the lack of street lights there was no option but to run in the garage.
The plan was to do 3 miles at 6.5 mph, and then the last mile at 8 mph. This would recreate the planned workout outside, though in a much more controlled fashion. I also didn't wear my heart rate which, as every time I exercise without it, I regretted almost as soon as I started.
Within 0.2 of a mile I was bored. Treadmill running is really dull. As with most times when I get bored the plan got changed to add a bit more challenge. I stuck at 6.5 mph for the first two miles, then did the next at 7 mph and then the last at 8 mph. At this point I felt absolutely fine, even right at the end, and was able to talk in full sentences. The treadmill didn't sound so good though, and was making some odd noises at the end.
Also although I say I did one mile at 8 mph I actually did 0.8 at 8mph, and 0.2 at 4 mph as the treadmill has an enforced cool-down. Will need to add on that extra going forward, though hopefully I won't have to run on the treadmill for a couple more weeks yet.
85 miles to go...
