30 August 2013 - Cardiff Part I

This weekend was spent in Cardiff with the rest of team wedge, so the first run was done after driving up there. As I've only been to Cardiff once before, working out a route could have been very difficult except that having been upgraded to the penthouse of one of the tallest buildings around we could see most of Cardiff, and particularly the path along the banks of the river Taff.

As such we set off with confidence as to where we were going. Weeman and Alan were joining me, although we were all planning to do slightly different distances. My plan was to do 2.5 miles easy and then 1.5 miles at half marathon pace.

The easy pace settled well, and we happily chatted away through the first couple of miles. At this point Alan dropped out, though he didn't seem to have any particular issues doing that distance. Myself and Weeman got to the end of the easy section, and took the pace up.

Unfortunately due to poor communication he was expecting me to increase it gradually whereas I made a step change in pace from 9:20 min/mile to 7 min/mile. As such a bit of a gap developed between us, though he maintained that distance comfortably until we passed the entrance to the apartment block. I then carried on to complete the distance, and while I was breathing a bit hard, it certainly wasn't too bad, despite completing the last mile in about 6 minutes 45 seconds.

Overall it was a good run, and I was pleased to get it done having had to push back Tuesdays run and then having to fit it in with going on holiday. 81 miles to go...

Distance: 4.01 miles
Time: 33 minutes 41 seconds
Pace: 08:23 min/mile
Heart Rate: 168 bpm
